Sam McCarter is the author of a number of books on IELTS, ESP and EAP, e.g. the Students’ and Teachers’ book for Ready for IELTS (Macmillan), Direct to IELTS (Macmillan), Medicine 1 and Medicine 2 (Oxford University Press), Oxford EAP B2 with Edward de Chazal Oxford University Press). He is author of the IELTS Skills app (Macmillan), which has been shortlisted for the prestigious English Speaking Union President’s Award 2013.
Sam has been teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages for over thirty years, beginning with VSO in Sierra Leone in West Africa. For most of his career he has taught health professionals, mainly doctors. He continues to write and teach by video-conferencing and Skype as well as face to face and delivers talks and training around the world. Sam’s main interests are materials writing in IELTS, ESP, EAP and general EFL, methodology, the digital delivery of materials , teacher training and writing fiction.
